Varicose Vein and Spider Vein Procedures

Varicose veins are usually caused by leaky valves in the saphenous vein system, which are composed of truncal veins lying deeper underneath the skin. This condition is known as saphenous vein incompetence and causes increased pressure, causing the side branch veins to become dilated and varicose. Treatment is therefore directed at both eliminating the underlying cause, as well as eliminating the varicose veins themselves.

Spider veins are small veins just beneath the surface of the skin. They vary in size and may appear as short or unconnected squiggles, or they may make patterns resembling a spider’s web or a starburst. They usually appear on the legs, but can also be found on other parts of the body.
